How would you describe your world right now? "Juggling, and curious. I’m moving constantly between right brain and left brain, adult children, grandchildren and aging parents; between fast-paced days and slower ones, home and travel, meetings and nature. At the same time, I’m paying attention. Soaking in new ideas and discovering what is really important to me." How did you first discover Valentina? "My sister, Trina, talked about Valentina and her collection for ages before I finally had the pleasure of meeting her myself, and understanding her very distinctive point of view." When do you reach for Valentina Kova most? "I love Valentina’s blouses. They’re elegant and ladylike, always appropriate, but there’s also a wow factor that makes them genuinely fun to wear." What’s your uniform right now? "I don’t have one, that’s part of my conundrum! What I love about Valentina Kova is how sophisticated and versatile the pieces are. I can dress them up or down, which also makes traveling so much easier. My packing time is shorter, and I’m much happier when I arrive and realize that everything I brought looks amazing." What does great style mean to you? "Classic and somewhat simple, but with flair. I like things to feel current without being overly trendy, and always individual to me. There should be a small element of the unexpected." I feel most like myself when I’m wearing... "Well-made clothes, with a proper fit, that feel good." Getting dressed should feel like... "Fun. Quick. Chic. Never a struggle."
How did you first meet Valentina? "I met Valentina herself in her Nantucket shop. I had wandered in, scruffy from the beach, and she asked if I was looking for anything in particular. As it happened, I was. Both of my sons were getting married. Valentina has such an instinct for what will look good on you." What made you stay? "The fit of Valentina Kova clothes. The feel of the luxurious fabrics. How cool I feel when I wear them. And, of course, Valentina herself, whom I adore." How do you feel when you put on Valentina Kova? "Relaxed. Confident. Elegant." What does great style mean to you? "Being effortlessly chic. Not trying too hard. Looking and feeling relaxed and comfortable, no matter how dressed up you are." What’s the last thing that made you feel truly beautiful? "Getting dressed for a black-tie evening last week and re-wearing a dress from one of my boys’ weddings. Gorgeous." I feel most like myself when I’m wearing... "Good jeans, boots with a heel, a silk blouse and some jewelry. Or maybe leggings, walking my dog." The first thing I bought from Valentina Kova was... "The silk faille dress I wore to my older son’s wedding. I felt glamorous and elegant, and also completely comfortable." My version of effortless is... "Packing for a trip without hours of indecision. I can do it now with three or four Valentina Kova pieces: a black silk jacket, fluid pants, a beautiful dress. It’s heaven."
